Description:
Plant pigmented red; moderate size; stems w/ spiral reinforcing fibrils in cortex, 1-2 pores per cell; branch fascicles with 2-3 spreading and 2-3 pendant. branch leaves with chlorophyllous cells short-elliptic in transverse section, well enclosed on each side
Habitat:
nutrient poor fen. formed an almost continuous lawn to small hummocks in a fully exposed site. Ledum groenlandicum, Sphagnum papillosum, Sphagnum angustifolium were also present intermittently.

To the best of my knowledge, this is only known population of S. magellanicum in Western Washington. Although it is
