Field Notes

Description:

A molt. It was so tiny and light weight trying to take pictures was an absolute nightmare, but well worth it for such an unexpectedly delicate find. Never thought I'd be able to find an empty molt in the wild. I was looking at ground for mosses, ferns and tillandsias and came across this in the leaf litter. At first I thought it was dead, but after picking it up realized it was something far rarer; an molted exoskeleton.

Habitat:

Thick leaf litter at Fern Forest Nature Center.
