Description:

Thin-stemmed plant with rounded, serrated leaves. Small, pale purple flowers are produced in an elongated cluster from a central stem.

Habitat:

Temperate forest. Growing in a shady area. Rockwood Park, Virginia.

Thank you Jackie for your help. I have tentatively identified this as Hairy Skullcap. It seems there is a fair amount of variation of appearance of this species and they can be difficult to separate from others in this genus.
Some kind of Skullcap. Similar to Heart-Leaved Skullcap (Scutellaria ovata), but it doesn't look *quite* the same. http://www.illinoiswildflowers.info/woodland/plants/hl_skullcap.html
