That was my first guess! :)
The Brachypelma vagans - despite the different habitat.
Was it the Stichoplastoris sp.?
Looks like you were right all along, Jolene.
Yeah, they're a fascinating group of animals! Stichoplastoris could be a match, but looking at pictures I miss the prominent red hairs on abdomen and legs. These could be more prominent in juveniles... Thanks again for the effort, Jolene :-)
So, I was browsing tarantulas from Chiapas and one that may be worth looking into as a possible ID is Stichoplastoris sp. The coloring looks about right, especially if the one in your photo is a juvenile:) I'm actually new to arachnids but I've been having fun learning about them.
It might still be a match. Thanks for the effort, much appreciated :-)
Hopefully someone can give a positive ID. I'll look for other possibilities too! :)
I'm not positive at all. Just looked like a possibility and I believe the range is right. But if the habitat is wrong then it might not be.
On second thought, I just read B. vagans prefers scrubland and is a burrowing species. This guy was found on a tree in rainforest. How positive are you about the ID?
Thanks Jolene, that does look like a match.
Brachypelma vagans * Sorry, it autocorrected me.
Maybe Brachypelma vegans? I think the range would be right for that one.
