Field Notes

Description:

Also called Paddybird, these herons appear short and stocky, but in reality they sport long necks. This fella was the only one acquiring its breeding plumage, rich in colours - and the only one doing Yoga (picN°1).
Non breeding plumage (here: https://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/429967516) is mainly buff in colour, with stripped necks.

Habitat:

Seen in and around ponds in urban area in densely populated Cox's Bazar town, in backyard gardens on urban periphery. The area is close to the beach, a lot of urban gardens (vegetables and some paddy; as well as many ponds).
