Description:

The Water pipit is a brownish bird, roughly the size of Blackbird, from the Motacillidae family. In spring plumage, the adult has greyish-brown upperparts, streaked with darker and lighter brown, and pale, slightly streaked, underparts fading to whitish on the lower belly. Head is grey, and the supercilium is pronounced.

Habitat:

The water pipit is a mountain species, and usually found in alpine pasture and high meadows with short grass and some bushes or rocks, and typically close to river bodies. Here, seen close to border with Russia, in a very cold valley, surrounded by a very tall Caucasus mountain peaks, some of which reach over 5000m. The valley, regularly beaten by harsh winds, is on some 1900m of altitude and composed of coniferous or thorny-shrub groves and patches of montane grasslands and barren rocks.
