Field Notes

Description:

Broadly convex, yellow-reddish cap surface radially streaked with yellow and brown tinges. Gills black with spores, with pale edges. Stem is 5 to 10cm tall; with a ring zone of pale fibres stained black by falling spores.
Grows in clusters.

Habitat:

Border of lawn/meadow and the tree line in our town park.

Notes:

If my identification is correct, this mushroom is edible when young, needs to be cooked quickly after harvest, and is of medium quality.
