Field Notes
Description:
Body silvery red, with orangish gold body stripes. Eyes large. Rear dorsal fin pronounced and sticking up. Anal fin with a strongly elongated third spine.
Size up to 18 cm.
Juveniles are thin, silvery pelagics and seldom seen.
Habitat:
Seen in Weber's Joy/Witches Hut dive site in Bonaire.
Hides in or near dark recesses. Rare on shallow reefs, becoming more abundant with depth, most abundant between 30 and 70 m.
Occasional south Florida, Bahamas and Caribbean.
