Eastern Newt (Amplexus)

During courtship, the male grasps the female behind her forelegs and rubs her snout with his head releasing pheremones. He will then deposit a sperm packet onto the pond floor which the female will pick up with her cloaca to fertilize her eggs. During breeding season, the male's tail fin becomes flag-like and wavy to initially attract his mate.
