Description:
An umbelliferous plant, growing in Southeastern Europe and North Africa, named from the isle of Thapsos, where it was obtained. Highly toxic to cattle and sheep and known in the ancient Greek literature as "death carrot".
Habitat:
Spotted in the little valley between Pnyx and Aeropagus, north-west of the Acropolis of Athens.
Notes:
Greek name: Θαψία η γαργανική.
The active ingredient thapsigargin is used in new cancer drugs targeting and killing cancer cells while healthing cells alone.
