Field Notes

Description:

A deceased male Eastern Hercules Beetle. This beetle is considered to be the heaviest beetle species in North America. Males have huge forward facing horns that protrude from the head and protonum. Females have no horns. They range in color from greenish to yellow to almost black and usually have dark spotting (it reminds me of splattered paint a bit).

Habitat:

Suburban. Attracted to a flood light overnight.
