Description:

I was happy to find this beauty in these gardens during the middle of a heat wave of consecutive 100-degree days. The adult has a wing underside that is mostly brown with two rows of orange spots, some blue iridescence, and white spots. The top side is black with a row of white spots on the margins and blue iridescence on the hind wings.Wing span: 3 - 4 inches (7.5 - 10 cm).

Habitat:

Spotted on flowers at the Botanical Gardens of the Ozarks in northwestern Arkansas.

Notes:

Ranges in eastern North America.
