The green opposite leaves you describe are leaflets on a compound leaf. How do you tell? Look at where it attaches to the stem of the bush. Here is a diagram: http://www.amnh.org/learn/biodiversity_counts/ident_help/Parts_Plants/types_of_compound_leaves.htm Roses have 3 to 7 leaflets.
ok, i haven't seen the thornes before ...
That's not a rose bush. It reminds me a bit of a plant I've been complaining on my walks-is it really tall and has hollow "trunk"?
