Field Notes

Description:

A brown body with a black throat. I have never seen a black-throated sparrow this dark, but I don't know what else this would be. Normally, only the throat is black, but this guy has an entirely black head.

Habitat:

Found in the southwestern US in arid hillsides. There were two of these foraging on the ground early in the morning.
