Field Notes

Description:

A big beautiful black and metallic green Dung Beetle with bright orange body hair. About 3 cm long. Undoubtedly a male because of the prominent head horn, which is broad and flattened, leaf-like. The last picture shows the "tooth pattern" on the front of the head. I found it floating still alive in a puddle of water. Family Scarabaeidae.

Habitat:

Forest trail, Finca Argovia, Ruta de Café, Soconusco area of Southern Chiapas, about 1 hour northeast of Tapachula.

Notes:

Surprisingly, considering it's size, I haven't yet found a match for this one.
