Field Notes

Description:

large, low to the ground cactus. Made up of many paddle or oval shaped segments. On average, each oval is about 12-14 inches long, 8 inches tall, and about 1/4 inch thick. Needles 1-2 inches long.

Habitat:

Tecolote Canyon, San Diego, CA. Dry, desert area. Mostly sunny and dry, but has been cloudy the past few mornings.
