Field Notes

Description:

The carapace is a reddish-olive color with black, blotchy swirls on it. The plastron is mostly plain. The skin is yellow with hints of orange and red on it, they are really pretty turtles.

Habitat:

Found in the Rio Grande River drainage in New Mexico, Texas, and Mexico.

Notes:

We were trapping turtles to get some cooters to get DNA samples from. We ended up catching a total of 5 cooters, and they were all released after we took blood and notched their scutes to start to get long term data for recaptures.

The song is very old for children to sing, I don't know how to download the song, but I found the statute, based on that song :-) "http://ameblo.jp/iphone-fan/image-10853480849-11149783289.html
Thanks Sachin! I'd love to hear it, Rieko :)
We (Japan) have a song about your picture :-)
Thanks Conor! I agree, but I just love them stacked on top of each other too much to put the other as the first picture :)
