Field Notes

Description:

stocky body, 3 stripes that glow under UV light. I think this is a type of harvestmen

Habitat:

rainforest, 1400m

Notes:

I went on a long nighthike in Yotoco natural reserve. I spotted at least 5 different organisms that glowed under the UV light. I have never seen anything like this. It was really cool to spot my first one, but after a few hours of hiking, I discovered these were quite common in the Yotoco forest.

Thanks Jason,17 and shekainah, I was pretty surprised to see this too!
The beetle is glowed cyan in Ultraviolet light. UltraViolet is a band of light beyond the color violet of the rainbow
That's okay bayucca, I appreciate your help with everything else, we can't know it all. Thanks Philip for the genus, I will update. Thanks for all the comments. Billo, I bought my UV light on Amazon.com. It's the Professional UV Inspection Flashlight 380-385nm. It's cheap and well made. http://www.amazon.com/Professional-Inspection-Flashlight-380-385nm-Ultraviolet/dp/B0013E3XVU/ref=pd_sim_hi_13
Where did you buy your UV light?.... by the way...AWESOME!!! ;)
Excellent captures Dan! So, I did a little research and this appears to be a opiliones from the Ampycus sp. I got to that conclusion taking the anatomy as the principal factor, I can't get any further. Hope I helped!
Spectacular! I read an article about the Opiliones flourescing in Invertebrates Magazine, a while back. Now I get to see a lovely example.
These Opiliones are for once definitely out of my range, sorry, cannot help you in any manner.
