Description:

hairy caterpillar, small white tipped black projections

Habitat:

pacific coast rainforest

Notes:

Spotting 1700! I saw my first shag caterpillar on Noah. Ever since I've wanted to spot one of these and was ecstatic to finally spot this guy. I was walking along a large waterpipe through the forest in San Cipriano forest reserve when I spotted this at a distance on a leaf. I climbed down from the pipe and picked the leaf it was on to bring it back onto the pipe where I could set up my little macro field studio. I've uploaded 200 spots from latest trip, only 800 to go!

Really nice spotting. I can see why you wanted to see one of these for yourself.
Beautiful find Dan,awesome and alien creature, congrats and thanks for sharing
Thanks a lot Yuko. Yes, to both, he is extremely small, just over one inch and the leaf is very large.
Beautiful caterpillar! Is he extremely small or is the leaf very large? BTW, congratulations on your 1,700th!
