Field Notes

Description:

Endemic to the Highlands of Papua New Guinea, these swallowtails live in elevations of 4,500 to 8,000 feet.

Seen at 7175 ft, 2174 meters. zipping around a stream like a speedy Gonzales ! Took this 2nd photo where you can see the upper wings, when it stopped for seconds to nectar on some wild flowers growing beside the stream.

Habitat:

Beside a stream in the Highlands of West Papua, surrounded by Primary montane rainforest.

Notes:

The name honours the collector Emil Weiske.
