Field Notes

Description:

Simple, pinnately-veined, double-serrate leaves, which were not growing at this time of year. Salmon-colored, peeling bark. Grow frequently in this area. This specimen was approximately 15 to 20 feet tall, with several trunks.

Habitat:

An area in yard that was covered in pine needles, though they naturally grow in grassy areas.

Notes:

This tree was young; older ones have darker, less peeling bark.
