Ants with slime mold
-37.8569, 145.322
Field Notes
Description:
On the trunk of a large Corymbia maculata these ants were working into a patch of white fuzzy material partially embedded under the bark and exposed at a fissure. Ants were about 8mm long.
Habitat:
In a local nature reserve adjoining a national park.
Notes:
Yet to search for species of ant... white fuzz might be a slime mold but it's strange that it would be buried within the bark and not simply on the outer surface.
