Field Notes

Description:

Hymenoptera, family Formicidae. This ant is of considerable size. Completely black, with reddish legs.

Habitat:

I took this picture inside the National Park Calillegua, Jujuy, in the border with the Caimancito Oil and Gas Field. I was crossing a stream of water and this ant was alone over a white stone. I can't realize how it gets there. Maybe swimming on the surface of the water.

Notes:

this genre is broadly spread in Argentina. I couldn't identify the higher level of taxonomy from this picture.
