Field Notes

Description:

Red-brown spider, body length approx 6mm, prominent white line on leading edge of the abdomen. Defensive pose, curled up tight.

Habitat:

Open woodland at Cattana Wetlands QLD

Notes:

Araneus cyrtarachnoides seems to be the closest species so far. The colour maybe a little different but the shape of the abdomen is the same even down to the 6 little dimples on it. Even the way it sits is the same.

Thank you Shanna and Lauren for the assistance with the ID.

The shape is very similar to this one http://www.arachne.org.au/01_cms/details.asp?ID=1923 but the colouring on yours is so much more vivid. That's the closest match I can find though.
