Field Notes

Description:

Leaves are simple, basal & alternate cauline. Flowers in spring/summer with yellow rays and disc. Disc flowers are bisexual and fertile. Ray flowers pistillate and fertile. Fruits in spring/summer and is achene.

Habitat:

Look for it on sandy roadsides, in sandy woodlands & forests, granitic flatrocks, and granitic domes. This one was observed at Heggies Rock near Appling (Columbia County), GA.

Notes:

It has been known as Senecio tomentosus.
