Field Notes

Description:

A hammershaped head, grey-brown body with white belly, upto 4 metres in length. Very shy, trying to approach will immediately result in the animal moving away at top-speed. Congregates in large schools.

Habitat:

Found near seamounts with strong currents - the best spottings around Cocos Island were made off Alcyone Rock, at depths around 35 metres with several knots of current.

Notes:

The reason for diving around Cocos Island - on each dive off Alcyon Rock spotted these beautiful animals, but getting a great picture is another story.
