Field Notes

Description:

Medium woodpecker, black & white mottled upperparts, white rump, yellow-washed white underparts. Red throat, black border. Red crown, black & white striped face, neck. Dark wings have white shoulder patch. Black tail has black-barred, white center stripe.

Habitat:

Treeline next to a large marsh & bog.

Notes:

Mer Bleue Conservation Area, Ottawa, Ontario. Ramsar site no. 755.
