Field Notes

Description:

More commonly found in a grizzled gray with white underbelly, this squirrel species also has a few other color phases that are found in areas. There is an established population of melanistic Eastern Gray Squirrels in and around the Bronx Zoo.

Habitat:

Bronx Zoo, New York. Urban/suburban/parkland.

Notes:

This squirrel looked like she was nursing as her nipples were quite pronounced (I didn't include the photo of her belly since it wasn't really focused well) .
