Description:

Hairy Lipfern is a fern that reaches a height from 6-14 inches. Its spores are located on the underside of fronds and are partly covered by the rolled edges of the leaf. The stipe (leaf stalk) is dark brown or purple, hairy, wiry, and brittle. The growth pattern is an asymmetric clump. It is deciduous.

Habitat:

Rock ledges and rocky slopes. This one was observed at Heggies Rock near Appling (Columbia County), GA.
