Field Notes

Description:

The upperside is reddish orange with black markings. Yellowish spots near the wing borders. The underside is mottled brown and grays with a silvery comma.

Habitat:

Spotted at the entrance to the Lodge at Mount Magazine.

It sure is Mark. At least for some species. I just visited Mount Magazine, which is the mecca for butterflies in Arkansas. Interestingly I didnt see any swallowtails, viceroys, queens or Monarchs - a little disappointing. Thats ok I still have 2 weeks of vacation left and Ill be exploring south Texas and southern New Mexico.
