Field Notes

Description:

Small larvae to 4mm. Looked like bird poo on the leaf. Very hard to make out what it was, until I viewed it on the screen. Now you can make out a head and legs. This was spotted in the vicinity of a number of adult Beach Tortoise Beetles - Aspidomorpha deusta.

Habitat:

Open woodland at Cattana Wetlands QLD, on Convolvulaceae, Ipomoea vine or Morning Glory

Notes:

According to Prof. Zundir, a brazilian specialist on Cassidinae, it is proved that that cover effectively protect the larvae against parasitic wasps and other predators (Sergio Monteiro)

Thank you for that interesting piece of information Sergio. I might put that in my notes for everyone to read.
