Doesn't the caterpillar get poked by these thorns?
Nymphalidae, Aglais sp. and most probably Aglais caschmirensis aesis. The host plant must be Urtica sp., might be the most common one Urtica dioica, but you have some other Urtica sp. in India. Please, verify both, caterpillar and host plant! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nettle
