Description:

The American Coot, Fulica americana, a gray-bodied bird, with yellow legs, a black head, and a whitish beak, winters in southern North America. They have a marooon bald spot right behind the beak, and red eyes. Although commonly mistaken for ducks in the family Anatidae, they are actually related to Gallinules, both in the family Rallidae.

Lifer!
