Field Notes

Description:

It is amazing what you can find in a scoop of pond water! I found dozens of ostracods (the round, green organisms in the last photo), copepods, colonial algae, mayfly larva, springtails, and water fleas just in a small scoop of water. The ones pictured here are females carrying eggs.

Habitat:

Small freshwater pond with lots of cattails

Notes:

Sorry for the poor quality, but they were really quite small. Video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HdmbpS6pQKo
