Field Notes

Description:

5-leaved white flower, which you seperate it from other helleboresbecause of the black over the white flower that usually grows alone on top neolistanega stems. The ground floor leaves are finely dissected, rather large, leathery and evergreen.

Habitat:

Forests, meadows, alpine areas etc.-at least in Slovenia.

Notes:

In Slovenia we call it teloh/črni teloh-when i was a child i called it beli teloh, which means white hellebore. Why is then a flower with snow white flowers called black hellebore? The answer lies in the color of the roots, which is really black ... well, as well as flowers are not always pure white. Eventually the white flowers stained reddish or greenish and in some cases you will find the black hellebore, which have from the very beginning reddish colored flower-as you can see from the picture which shows it's back. This plant is poisonous, so you shouldn't eat it!

What a beautiful flowers!
Thank you, Mayra! I love these flowers, especially because it's hard to spot them-the green version is more common here!
