Description:

These are the male flower parts of a tree, perhaps 7 feet tall. Red maple is the most abundant tree in America. This tree is probably less than 10 years old.

Habitat:

A swamp in a temperate deciduous forest.

Notes:

Budding seems to mark the arrival of spring.
