Description:

This polypore fungus appears in late summer and fall. It's associated with conifer trees and in this case pine trees. It often incorporates blades of grass, twigs, or fallen pine needles as they grow. Aka velvet-top fungus, dyer's polypore, and dyer's mazegill.

Habitat:

Spotted on the ground under pine trees.

I was thinking ours were a darker brown, but I see they are supposed to be bright yellow or orange when young and turn brown or olive green with age. Nice catch Brian. Thanks.
