Field Notes

Description:

habitually sit on the tree trunks in a head downwards posture, at a height of about 2 metres, to imbibe sap and moisture from crevices in the bark.

Habitat:

pacific coast rainforest

Notes:

These butterflies rarely move when feeding and I was able to get really close. This photo is not cropped at all. Pretty sure it's the right species but it may be C. annulata. San Cipriano forest reserve.
