Field Notes

Description:

Woodland wildflower with a tuber-like root which produces a blood-colored toxic sap when broken. Flowers bloom early in the spring and leaves develop over summer. Leaves are very strangely shaped.

Habitat:

Found in deciduous woodlands on higher areas.

I leave for Belize for two week at the end of semester, then I'm spending the Summer doing research in the Grand Tetons, and next fall I'll be spending the semester in Panama.

Thanks Stephanie! I hope all is well in Illinois. It's been one strange year weather-wise so I'm looking forward to Spring. (My parents got 16 inches of snow just a couple of weeks ago.) But I'm won't be spending too much time in Iowa this year! I've got some big plans! Have a wonderful spring!
