Field Notes

Description:

Bird - about 10 inches long, black head, reddish-orange breast, yellow beak, brown body. In pairs or groups mostly.

Habitat:

Chicagoland area, Illinois. Temperate grassland/prairie. Taken in late March, temperature around 45 degrees F. Most species of plant life just starting to bloom, still a little snow on the ground.
