Field Notes

Description:

Damselfly with grey, dark brown and yellow markings. About 55mm long.

Habitat:

In a nature reserve adjoining a water retarding basin. Continually around the edge of water resting occasionally on reeds and sedges.

Thanks for the input David. I'm just beginning to look at the Odonata. Fascinating things.
I would say you are correct, Martin. Her pale colour suggests she is almost past the teneral stage.
Yes the males are bright blue and they will have similar blue dots pointing upwards. There are also other candidate blue species http://www.projectnoah.org/spottings/195046139
Thanks Martin. I didn't know about the dots. Very attractive! There were small blue ones cruising around about the same size - they were the males of the species I guess..
Female. There are two upward dots on her head. This is a bit of a guess. I've been known to get odonata wrong sometimes.
