Field Notes

Description:

In the fourth photo it looks like a rolled up bit of dry leaf...the first is an extreme close up. I am hoping someone can ID it.

Habitat:

We are having a bit of a heatwave so I water the plants before I leave for work. I saw this eaten up Bauhinia leaf and wondered where the caterpillars that had eaten it were hiding... there were none on the undersurface of the leaf.....I wondered if I should detach it since it was the only tattered leaf. But then I thought why hurt the tree...let me brush away the dry rolled up bit of leaf on the green lamina...only then did I realize that the dry rolled up bit of leaf was the caterpillar that had eaten the leaf. That's when the camera came out

Notes:

I must thank PN for teaching me to look closely. And am waiting to thank PN again, when I get my ID...please!

Am keeping an eye on this caterpillar...there is just one.
