Field Notes

Notes:

The first picture in this series is the original shot and you can see that some hungry creature took a bite right out of it and it happens to be the colorful part of this butterfly. I was lucky enough to find a shot on the internet that was in the right position and with a little help from Photoshop, my butterfly successfully underwent a tail transplant!!!

Great shot, and a nice idea with the other pic!:]
Gorgeous spotting! Good that you could perform a virtual surgery! Haha
I love this picture because I always hear how the "fake face" on the back end of the wings with eye-like spots and false antennae, is a decoy for attacking birds. I never actually saw a case where it worked and the real head was spared! Very neat.
Hi johnlguerin! Awesome spotting! We request that photographs are submitted in as natural a state as possible. We appreciate that often there will be a need to carry out minor improvements such as cropping, lightening and sharpening an image so that we can better see the detail of the organism it portrays. These minor improvements are perfectly acceptable but we do request that heavily Photoshopped or otherwise manipulated images are not shared on this site. There is a story behind the damage - the butterfly obviously had a near miss but lived to see the day! Please make photo 2 the main picture. Thanks! Also, if you have any questions please consult the FAQ: http://www.projectnoah.org/faq
