Description:

I found this red-eared slider basking in the sun. Usually they dive into the water before I can get close but this one was too preoccupied with sunbathing.

Hi Anthony, I agree with Neil. This looks like a Red-eared Slider. Painted turtles don't have that red patch behind the eye. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Painted_turtle
