Field Notes

Description:

Wingspan: males 34-38 mm females 35-39 mm

Notes:

Distribution: South Africa, it is common and widespread in the hot dry savanna of KwaZulu-Natal, Swaziland, Mpumalanga, Gauteng, the Limpopo Province and the North-Western Province. Foodplants: Probably feed on Poaceae species. Larvae have been reared on Ehrharta erecta and Pennisetum clandestinum. Comments: Adults are on wing from September to May (with a peak in late summer)

I have to agree Kate, not the most cooperative butterfly here in the park! But a beautiful one indeed! Every week there seem to be new ones coming, so every tour we take is a joy! Tom, that is too bad! Perhaps I should tell them to take a little tour over there and make new friends! :P Thank you Lauren, I also like the band of perals on the underderside. I wish I had it in full focus thoug... Next time :)
