Field Notes

Description:

Large black "bumblebee", with smooth black thorax, and mostly yellow abdomen. Second proximal segment of abdomen was black, but the first and third through seventh segments were bright golden yellow.

Habitat:

Tropical humid broadleaf forest on lower slopes of mountain, at about 800 meters elevation.

Notes:

The bee was feeding at planted flowers at edge of lodge parking lot, adjacent to forest.
