Field Notes

Description:

Similar in looks to the Great Blue Heron. But also with big differences. Longer thinner bill and white from neck to the underparts. Adults are mostly blue gray in color on the upperparts. The amount of reddish color noted in this bird indicates it is still a juvenile bird and most of that color will be gone as it gets older. The other difference is the size. Looking at the image you would expect a larger bird but this one was about the size of a Snowy Egret or smaller.

Habitat:

Normally found in coastal wetlands along southern states and south America. Found this one in the wetlands.

Notes:

Reported 2 birds but I only was able to find one.
