Field Notes

Habitat:

Smal village by the side of a river (now turned into a lake), surrounded by forests and lots of rocky mountains. Altitude: 6,000ft.

Notes:

On Aug 13, 2016 a whole mountain had come crashing down to a gorge and a lake was formed in Dzongu in North Sikkim, some 80km away from Gangtok. That created a big local news, because it obliteratede a small village, all routes above it was cut off and the lake became a threat to places down stream. Many experts are visiting the place and the government is in a dilemma: to keep the lake or open it and let it go! As a nature lover, angler, photographer and 'self-styled environmentalist' I had a plan to visit the place, and today was the day. I was happy to see these beautiful butterflies oblivious of the whole issue!
