Description:

A Bald cypress grove at Lake Chicot. Taxodium distichum is a deciduous conifer in the family Cupressaceae that grows on saturated and seasonally inundated soils in the lowlands of the Southeastern and Gulf Coastal Plains of the United States.

Habitat:

Spotted this grove across from the State Park at lake Chicot. They were growing on a shallow shelf about a meter deep that extended 100 meters or more from the bank.

Tolerant to flooding and with a large buttress base as well as an extensive root system, this majestic conifer can also resist strong winds. The bald cypress provides resting and nesting cover for many species of swamp wildlife. Its seeds are dispersed by water and squirrels. Spotted by Brian38 at Lake Chicot, Arkansas, USA. Thanks DrNamgyalT.Sherpa. I was doing my best from a kayak. Seams like sometimes pictures don't do the subject justice. The groove of trees in the lake were certainly beautiful, extending parallel to the bank for 100's of meters.
