Description:
Lichen moths: bright, beautiful, bizarre. Family: Arctiidae Genus: Hypoprepia Species: H. Fucosa I went outside at 9:30 p.m. at night, and I saw this beautiful moth, resting on a wall, on the outside of my house. This moth, was about five sixteenth of an inch long. This moth, had two, long, thin antennae, and two compound eyes. The right eye was missing, on this moth! Its wings, were resting flat against its body. This moth, had four wings, and six, jointed legs. The colors of this moth, was red-orange with dark gray stripes, etc. The colors of its legs, were banded. Dark and light colors. The larvae, feed on lichen, algae, and moss on trees. Wingspan: 25 to 35 mm. Adults fly from May to August, in the north, perhaps most of the year, in Florida. Adults are nocturnal, and come to light. This moth was alive, and able to fly. Note: the right eye on this moth, was missing!

Wooded areas. Forested habitats.
